Fall Adult Sunday School Programs

Roundtable Class

The Kingdom Equation

The Kingdom Equation challenges us to take a fresh, insightful look at the parables of Jesus based on John Timmer’s book of the same name. This course will surprise us with thought-provoking interpretations informed by Middle Eastern culture and Jesus’ use of metaphor in his parables– all of which invite us to learn how to live in the kingdom of God today. The parables of Jesus, says author of John Timmer, give us insight into the strange and unfamiliar world of God’s kingdom on earth. They are the stories that call our values into question and shockingly reverse our typical human standards. They are kingdom equations-metaphors that equate something from our familiar world with the surprising kingdom of God. The course will be comprised of both lecture and discussion.

Combined Adult Class

The Present Word: Covenant Communities

The Present Word is from beginning to end a Bible study series. Teachers and learners come together to reflect on the biblical text and to act on what they discover there. The sessions feature the great celebrations of the Christian church, which rehearse the life of Christ and bring to believers the significant events of that life. The fall quarter focuses on God’s covenant as made manifested in communities. The lessions consider the persons God chose to be covenant leaders, the invitations God offered to enter into community, the people’s responses to the invitations and the nature of God’s new covenant communit y. The course will be comprised on both lecture and discussion.

Adult II

They Shall Be My People: The Divine Drama for Genesis to Revelation

The Bible is a single book with a single author telling a single story." It is the Word of God." It should be read and understood in terms of that oneness.," says author John Timmer. This overview of the major themes in the unfolding drama of God's plan of salvation through the various books of the Bible includes lecture and discussion.
